Located just across Boston Harbor to the north, the town of Charlestown has been gaining popularity over the past decade or so, greatly due to the conversion and cleanup of several waterfront areas, such as the Charlestown Navy Yard, and the natural historic significance of the towns various neighborhoods. Most recognizable by the tall Bunker Hill monument that is seen over the city skyline, Charlestown offers a relaxing suburban feel, while being located less than five minutes from downtown Boston.

The Charlestown real estate market is made up of Victorian-style homes, converted Federal buildings, colonials, and brownstone homes. Luxury high-rise condo developments can be found lining the town’s waterfront, on the eastern and southern points. Many fine restaurants and small shopping areas can be found on the eastern part of town, as we l as the newly reconditioned Tavern On the Water, a hotspot for people of all ages during the warmer months of the year, located on the pier in the Charlestown Navy Yard. “The Tavern” as locals know it, is one of the only restaurants that is truly on Boston Harbor, and can also be accessed by boat. Also accessible by boat will be the new Harborview on the Navy Yard, a 224-unit high-rise luxury condo development currently under construction, with an anticipated completion date of Fall 2007.

Rich in history, Charlestown officially became part of Boston in 1870. While taking a tour on the cities famous Freedom Trail walk, visitors have the chance to explore the Bunker Hill Monument, U.S.S. Constitution, and the Navy Yard in its entirety.

Easily accessible by car, bike, or on foot from downtown Boston, Charlestown is also on the MBTA Orange line, and the Boston Harbor Water Taxi has several pickup points along the waterfront, with service to the Financial District and the New England Aquarium.
