Boston’s Midtown area includes the Financial District, Leather District and Downtown Crossing. With the exception of the waterfront, no area in Boston will benefit more from the dismantling of the central artery than midtown Boston. When plans of the Big Dig and the Rose Kennedy Greenway were in place, developers had already begun converting old warehouses and shoe and leather factories into large residential lofts, hence the name Leather District. Soon residents fortunate enough to live there will be able to enjoy the beautiful parks and brick walkways the Rose Kennedy Greenway will bring to the area. The Financial District has always been a hot spot for professionals, young and old, during the week, and efforts to convert the area into a comfortable weekend residential area are well underway. With the recent completion of the 96-unit Folio building on Broad Street, as well as the nearby 44-unit Broadluxe development (also on Broad Street) commuters now have an opportunity to leave the rush hour routine behind, and live in luxury only steps from where they work. Several new restaurants and nightclubs, such as The Vintage Lounge, and Umbria, have also recently opened, in anticipation of the newly revamped residential Broad Street.

Through the shops of Downtown Crossing, while approaching Boston Common, several notorious high-rise luxury condo developments arise. The famous Ritz-Carlton Residential towers have stood high above the city for less than a decade, but will soon have to compete with the newest residential high-rise development to hit the Boston luxury condo market, 45 Province. This 31-story high-rise mixed-use building just recently broke ground with an anticipated completion date of 2009.

Along with the high-rise developments, there are many other fantastic living opportunities in Boston’s midtown, especially on Boston Common. Tremont on the Common, The Grandview, and Four Season’s Place are a few of the many.
